(en)After introductory shots of a resting carpet python (Morelia spilotes variegatus Gray), the film shows the snake devouring prey, a golden hamster and several mice. The prey is first seized in the mouth, then encircled by one or two coils of the body, and squeezed until dead. The dead prey is then licked with the tongue and then, as a rule, swallowed head-first. The halves of the jaw hook alternatively into the prey and so transport it into the throat. When the prey has disappeared into the throat, the snake begins to make yawn- and correlating-movements in order to bring the jaw components back to their normal position.
