Treffer: WHO AM I?
Weitere Informationen
I was born in Aden, Yemen, the younger son of John, an oil company accountant, and Dorothy, a nurse. After losing my mother at the age of six, my brother and I went to several boarding schools, ending up at Eastbourne College in Sussex when I was 13. I decided I wanted to be an actor when I was seven, but it was while studying for an accountancy degree at Sheffield University that I got involved in stand-up comedy. I took to the streets with another would-be comedian, eventually dropping out of college to devote myself to stand-up full time. By 1987 I had a spot at London's Comedy Store, and I've since become one of Britain's most successful comics - and one of the few to crack the US, counting Robin Williams, Madonna and Steve Martin among my fans. A lifelong love of Crystal Palace FC has seen me become an associate director, while my pro-Europe stance means that I occasionally perform in fluent French and sometimes German. I've always been drawn to the surreal and am obsessed with Monty Python - John Cleese has even described me as 'the lost Python'. Oh, and I also have a penchant for dressing in women's clothes.
